Touchscreens – ‘PCT’ Projected Capacitive Touch………..What is it?

Article publish date: October 8, 2019 - Article ID: 29935

PCT or Projected Capacitive Touch is the newest development on touch technology and is used on Tablet and Smart phone devices.
It is fundamentally different from older touch solutions, as the touch element is integrated behind the glass and not on top. The touch sensitive area is projected through the glass, putting a touch sensitive layer above the glass. The height that is projected above the glass is called the Fly Height.

PCT has some great advantages over traditional touch methods as it puts the touch element behind a protective glass, making a robust touch solution resistant to dirt, moister and scratches. The protective glass can also be manufactured to customer requirements and incorporate boards and buttons.
